How Does Online Counseling Work?

We offer secure and private virtual counseling sessions through the Zoom video chat platform. These virtual Tele-counseling sessions are structured similarly to an in-person session, yet they can take place in an environment of your choosing. From your home to your office to your hotel room, you can meet with your therapist through Zoom on Macs, PCs, as well as iOS and Android smartphones and tablets at the touch of a button.

Is Online Therapy Covered By Insurance?

As virtual therapy continues to become more and more popular, many insurance policies will cover online counseling sessions. Explore your insurance policy to find out if you are covered. We accept self-pay patients for online counseling in Georgia. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have further questions. Contact ACPC Online today to get started.

Does my health insurance reimburse me for your fees when I pay out of pocket?

Several health insurance companies reimburse services by "out of network" providers as long as it is provided by a licensed professional in the state of Georgia.  Before scheduling an appointment, call your insurance company to inquire if your type of plan provides for reimbursement for “out of network” providers.  The three licenses available are Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).   If your plan does provide reimbursement, we will be happy to provide you with the necessary documentation to submit to your insurance company.

Downside of using insurance to pay for your therapy is that every claim must include a diagnosis putting your mental health into the medical model of “disease” and “treatment”.  This “disease” is one that will be included in a paper trail that will follow you for several years. Several insurance companies have chosen to increase premiums due to even the most benign mental health diagnosis. So consider the short term savings of using your insurance with the long term loss of paying, in some cases, more than double your monthly premium for insurance in the years to come.

What is Christian counseling?

Christian counseling is counseling performed by a professional counselor who upholds Christian values, beliefs and philosophy. The therapist integrates a combination of Christianity, psychology, and psychotherapy into the applied program. Clients may see Christian counseling as a relationship with a caring counselor directed toward increased awareness of themselves, others, the societies and cultures in which they live, and their understanding of God's plan. We, at ACPC recognize Christian counseling as a unique form of Christian discipleship, assisting the church in its call to bring believers to maturity in the lifelong process of sanctification and growing to maturity in Christ.  We adhere to the ethical codes set forth by the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the American Counselors Association (ACA).

What do the letters mean at the end of the counselor’s name?

Often a counselor will list the initials of the type of education they have received, such as MS for Master’s of Science in Counseling. Next they will list the first letters of the type of licensure they have, for example, LPC, which is a licensed professional counselor. Licensed counselors have met the requirements of the state licensing board in which they practice in order to be licensed as a counselor. That reassures you that they have at least a Master’s degree which includes 1000 hours of supervision during their master’s program. In addition, the state requires two years of post-master’s supervision and passing a national counseling exam.  Licensed counselors are also required to maintain a certain number of hours in continuing education.
